Ancient stone Seats of Judgement, Law Stones and King Stones

Ancient stones were used as "Seats of Judgement". "Law Stones" and of course "King Stones".

Huntingdonshire, England had four stone Seats of Judgement or Law Stones. other areas, Towns and Islands in the UK and Scotland appear to have had Law Stones.

Scotland/England has the Stone of Scone (The Coronation Stone) where Kings are crowned and Kingship granted.

Ireland has its King Stone, the Lia Fáil (Stone of Destiny) where its Kings were crowned.

Swedens Kings were recognised by law at coronation ceremonies at the Mora sten (Stone of Mora).

With King Arthur forever linked to a Kings Stone tale with the Sword in the Stone and whoever pulled Excalibur out of the Stone would be the true King.

Why were these particular stones used as these stones of power? Were they any old stones or rocks found laying about or was their something special about them or where they were found?

Law Stone - Leighton Stone Seat of Judgement

English mythology - Seats of Judgement - Leighton Stone

This stone, thought to be about a thousand years old, represents the ancient seat of judgement.

It was placed in the center of an area of 100 units, where taxes were collected and criminals of the day were brought to judgement.

There were four of these in Huntingdonshire - Leighton Stone, Hursting Stone, Toseland Stone and Norman Cross Stone.

At one time this stone was situated at the other side of the Church and has recently been removed to this site.

This ancient Law Stone or Seat of Judgement can be found at what is now known as Leighton Bromswold, Huntingdonshire.

Law Stones - La Table Des Marthes, Jersey

Quote

LA TABLE DES MARTHES at UTL 556 482
This a pink granite slab, almost looking as if it had been shaped into a rectangle. It is probably a huge capstone from the alte Neolithic or early bronze age, about 2500 to 3000 BC.

An excavation in l850 found upright stones below it, a stone axe and some broken pottery. It was a folkloric stone, used by the inhabitants of Jersey for signing contracts.

To this it may owe its survival since it was allowed to stand by the side of the now disused St Helier to La Corbiere railway.
