They keep going on about fracturing, as they have to to keep the idea of sublimating ice from inside the comet, but it is more likely to be part of the electrical discharging and machining of the comet by electromagnetic forces.

As suggested by the EU theory all the solar systems bodies have similar geology features because those features were created by similar electrical events. That is why you can have very different bodies, with very different composition but similar geology - this happens on asteroids, moons and planets.
